For the uninitiated, puppy liner is the antithesis of the more popular feline flick, and instead of sloping upwards at the end of the eye, turns downward. A trend which originated in Korea, the #puppyeyeliner hashtag has been viewed 97.3 million times on TikTok, and it has surprisingly flattering results. Eilish herself pulls the look off with ease—and there are a few lessons to take from her effort.
The first is to follow the shape of your eye—avoid sloping the liner down too drastically, or it can make eyes look droopy or sad. The second is to use a smudgy pencil for a soft, diffused finish. And the third is to follow the lower, rather than upper, lash line, smudging downwards in the outer corners for a slightly grungy, lived-in feel.
