The Best Way To BUSSINES
In Milan, this past week, plenty of sunshine and transitional temperatures made it the ideal time for the street-style set to debut some quintessential fall items. It was a moment to wear them front and center and without any layers to distract, from knitwear that doesn’t require a jacket to skirts without knee-high boots or tights. Milan Fashion Week showgoers certainly took advantage of the opportunity, choosing marvelous midi and maxi length skirts in colorful tartan pleats, sleek black silk, and patchworked denim. The takeaway? Five fresh ways to wear a long skirt this fall and a few of the season’s most sought-after skirts according to Milan Fashion Week street style.
that Prada Skirt
It took over the Prada fall 2022 runway last season, and now (I counted 27 of 54 total looks, to be exact) to no surprise, the dainty It skirt has taken Milan street style by storm. The designer’s mesh, leather, and wool paneled skirts have recently become available to shop. And despite the high price tag, they’re more versatile than you might think. Showgoers outfitted them in a number of ways, from casual leather shackets or puffer jackets to an easy white tank and a pair of Amina Muaddi’s heels fit for a party, as seen here.
Patchwork at Play
Denim maxis and patchwork prints are sartorially synonymous with fall; put them together, and you’ve got yourself an autumnal outfit on auto drive. Add an oversized knit, a quirky shoe, or a patchwork bag to a denim skirt for an eclectic yet cozy weekend look.
Pretty in Prints
Another notable item from the fall 2022 shows was Altuzarra’s beautiful Shibori-dyed skirts and dresses. On its own, the style reads bohemian, but Gabriella Karefa-Johnson’s modern styling proves differently. We suggest picking up the pink of the skirt with a pair of shoes of the same shade like Balenciaga’s Cagole mules and topping it off with a vintage tee or leather jacket. Alternatively, lean into the free-spirited feeling of the collection with a shearling jacket and flat boots.
The Silk-Satin Staple
If there’s one fall skirt in your wardrobe already, it’s likely a satin or silk midi. Although it has a bit of shine, the minimal style is powerfully versatile and considered more of a closet staple than a trend. Wear it with anything and everything: a T-shirt, a turtleneck, a tuxedo blazer. Let it be the first step to any of your fall outfit formulas.
Yeehaw-Worthy Plaid
Outside of Gucci’s Twinsburg show, twisted prep school style gets a touch of Western flair. This season, take your tartan pleats to a new level with a tasseled loafer from Bass Weejuns, a crossbody saddle bag, or even a cowboy hat.
